Our Work

Programs Built Around Communities

Each programme delivered by Baobab Health Initiative is the result of deep community consultation, evidence review, and careful design. We do not apply one-size-fits-all solutions — instead, we tailor our approach to the specific health landscape, cultural context, and resource environment of each community we work with. Below are the core programme areas that currently define our portfolio.

Maternal & Child Health

Safe Beginnings Programme

This programme focuses on improving health outcomes for mothers and children from pregnancy through the first five years of life. Through community health workers, ante- and postnatal education, nutrition support, and referral pathways, we work to reduce preventable illness and support healthy development at the earliest, most critical stages of life.

  • Antenatal and postnatal health education
  • Nutritional assessment and support
  • Community health worker home visits
  • Referral and facility linkage support
Chronic Disease

Living Well Programme

Chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory disease are placing a growing burden on communities and health systems alike. Our Living Well Programme provides structured peer support groups, health literacy sessions, and medication adherence coaching to help individuals manage their conditions effectively and maintain quality of life.

  • Peer support group facilitation
  • Health literacy and self-management training
  • Medication adherence support
  • Facility-community care coordination
Mental Wellbeing

Minds Matter Programme

Mental health remains one of the most underfunded and stigmatised areas of community health. Our Minds Matter Programme integrates mental wellbeing into primary care settings, trains community health workers in psychological first aid, and runs community-based awareness and destigmatisation campaigns that create safer environments for people to seek support.

  • Psychological first aid training
  • Community awareness and destigmatisation
  • Integration into primary care pathways
  • Peer listener and support networks
Capacity Building

  • Ongoing mentorship and supervision
  • Digital health tools and resources
  • Professional development and certification
